Short story for children

Rucky and Croocky

There once was a cat named Rucky and he lived like a king. He had three meals a day and a walk once a day too. When Christopher went out, he put Rucky on his shoulders and the cat looked at the world from above.

The street cats shouted:

“Hey, Rucky, come play with us!”.

But Rucky looked at them from his higher place and kept saying:

“I do not do with cats that shuffled garbage and sleep on the street”.

One day, on one of their strolls, Christopher was speaking on the phone and was not thinking about his cat, Rucky, who got distracted looking at a bunch of parrots on a tree.

Suddenly Rucky turned around and his master was not there anymore. And so it was that the men from the kennel saw him and,

given that on this day Rucky was not wearing his collar (Christ overlooked to put it on again, after going to the pet’s hairdresser), they took him for a vagabond cat and they grabbed him.

As the hours went by, Rucky was very sad, alone in a cage. He was

hungry and cold, something that he had never endured.

Then he heard Croocky, the cat who slept at the end of the same street where Rucky lived, opening the door of the cage and his heart begun to beat faster. Croocky whispered to him:

“ssssh don’t you make any sound, I know where these guys keep the keys of the cages; I have helped many other little friends to flee.”

When they finally came home again, after running like lightning, and they had to go separate ways, Rucky said:

“Although I have always despised you, you risked your life to save me. You’ve given me a lesson I will never forget. Come to our house, Christopher loves cats and he will love you too. There is food and warmth for everyone”.

And so it was. Since that day on, Croocky does not sleep on the streets anymore.

Now Rucky have to share with Croocky and he no longer lives like a king, but has two things of more value than any of his previous things: friendship and company.
